Family Support

When families are stable, children are stable. For that reason, improving home life is a large part of The Children’s Aid Society’s mission.

Programs that ensure shelter and safety for children help keep families together.

We do this through programs that ensure children have a place to live, that the home is free from violence and that children are given the basic care they need even when their parents are unable to provide it.

To that end:

Transitional housing and associated services are available for homeless families at our Pelham Fritz Apartments in Harlem. Additional housing services are provided to families living in the three buildings of our Carmel Hill Project.

Domestic Violence Prevention and Intervention Programs provide counseling for survivors and witnesses of abuse as well as the batterers themselves. In situations where violence is ongoing, Children’s Aid case managers help victims access the housing, financial assistance and orders of protection they need to start a new life.

Homemaker Services, one of Children’s Aid’s oldest programs, provides the services needed to keep children in their homes and out of foster care. These include meal preparation, childcare, bringing children to school and housekeeping.

Most families served by these programs are referred through the New York City Administration for Children’s Services.

Additional emergency assistance can be provided to families through the New York Times Neediest Cases Fund.
