What:
Harlem Renaissance Extravaganza
School-aged children and teens will perform in the Harlem Renaissance Extravaganza, featuring a look at “Harlem, Then and Now.”
The performances mark the culmination of the first year of the Harlem Renaissance Arts Program, which teaches youth at The Children’s Aid Society’s East Harlem Center about Harlem’s culture and arts through research, performances and visits to significant sites.
Thanks to the generosity of Lehman Brothers, the youth will perform on a newly renovated stage. Lehman Brothers also sponsors the Harlem Renaissance Arts Program at the East Harlem Center.

What:
Dare to Dream Scholarship Ceremony
BrainstormUSA, a marketer of educational software, videos and computers, will award prizes in its “Dare to Dream…Expect to Succeed” scholarship program. Students from across the country are invited to submit projects – prose, poetry, photography, collage or drawing – depicting their dreams. Winners are chosen in various age categories.
Fatoumata Jawo, a 15-year-old student from the Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics, a Children’s Aid Society Community School, will be awarded a $5,000 scholarship. Fatoumata’s dream is to become a dermatologist.
Two other winners will be awarded personal computers with educational software and four will win bundles of educational software.
