Assembly Member Espaillat Secures Funding for Children’s Aid’s Work in High School Dedicated to Immigrants
September 10, 2008
On the first day of the 2008-09 school year, Children’s Aid celebrated a special grant from New York State Assembly Member Adriano Espaillat for our work in two community schools in Washington Heights.
VIPs, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Assembly Member Espaillat, New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and New York City Department of Education Chancellor Joel Klein packed the opening of the new building for the Gregorio Luperón High School, a school tailored to the needs of newly-arrived immigrants. Assembly Member Espaillat presented Children’s Aid’s CEO C. Warren Moses with a check for $200,000. The funding is earmarked for the expansion of Children’s Aid’s work in the high school, including guidance, college prep and SAT prep services.

An additional $125,000 will be utilized for Children’s Aid’s work in the Salomé Ureña de Henríquez Middle School Campus for students transitioning from middle school to high school.
Bill Weisberg, Children’s Aid’s COO, said, “The money will help students going forward to maximize their educational success.”
