U.S. Olympic Boxing Team Visits Children’s Aid!
July 15, 2008
Summer campers at The Children’s Aid Society East Harlem Boys & Girls Club were treated to demonstrations of the “sweet science” when the eight members of the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team visited the center on July 10th. Before their departure for the Olympic Games in Beijing, the boxers and their coaches shared the inner workings of the sport with a lucky group of middle school-aged students.
The visit, arranged by Everlast and USA Boxing, included boxing-inspired workouts for the campers and a chance to spar with the Olympians. The theme of this summer’s camps at Children’s Aid is the Olympics and this visit gave the children a chance to meet and learn from real-life Olympians.
As the Children’s Aid Society East Harlem Boys & Girls Club’s gym filled with the sound of boxing gloves meeting punching bags and jump ropes being twirled, it was hard to determine who was enjoying themselves more – the children or the boxers. After the workout, the boxers signed autographs and ate lunch outside with the campers. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful summer day and the campers had the chance to forge a personal connection to the Olympics. All the new boxing fans will be cheering the team on as they compete in Beijing!
