"Take Your Loved One to the Doctor Day" Offers Free Health Screenings

The Children’s Aid Society’s Bronx Family Center to Provide Walk-In Care for Community

What:
As part of the national “Take Your Loved One to the Doctor Day,” The Children’s Aid Society’s Bronx Family Center and Plaza del Castillo Health Center will offer free health screenings to the Bronx community, regardless of income or immigration status.

In addition to health screenings for children and adults for blood pressure, body mass index and glucose, free health education will be available on obesity, diabetes, reproductive health, nutrition/fitness, cancer prevention and asthma. The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene – Bronx District Public Health Office will distribute nicotine patches for smoking cessation.

Affinity Health Plan will be on hand to enroll uninsured patients in health insurance plans.

“Take Your Loved One to the Doctor Day” was launched by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2002 and takes place annually on the third Tuesday in September.

Who:
The Children’s Aid Society’s Bronx Family Center, opened in 2000, offers integrated services, including a health clinic (with medical and dental care), early childhood center, preventive and foster care services, to the surrounding community.

In addition to The Children’s Aid Society and Affinity Health Plan, support for “Take Your Loved One to the Doctor Day” is provided by Urban Health Plan, Bronx Health REACH and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene – Bronx District Public Health Office.
