***Photo Op*** - Delivery by Mercedes-Benz, Ribbon-Cutting
Where:
Pelham Fritz Transitional Apartments
17-21 West 118th Street (between Fifth and Lenox Avenues)
Manhattan
What:
The Children’s Aid Society and New York Junior League (NYJL) are opening a new clothing bank at Pelham Fritz Transitional Apartments (PFA), a Tier II homeless shelter for families on their way to permanent housing. The clothing bank will be open to members of the Harlem community in addition to shelter residents.
A ribbon-cutting will mark the opening after a Mercedes-Benz Tri-State Dealers representative delivers over 100 pairs of shoes donated by New York Junior League members at a special preview of the movie “The Devil Wears Prada.” Those shoes form the clothing bank’s first donation. Mercedes-Benz worked with the NYJL to raise awareness of the project and encourage donations. A reception at Dunlevy Milbank Center (across West 118th Street) follows.
Who:
NYJL President Trisha Duval and C. Warren Moses, CEO of The Children’s Aid Society, will speak and cut the ribbon.
Why:
Children’s Aid has partnered with the New York Junior League at Pelham Fritz since its opening in1990; the two organizations have worked jointly on planning and NYJL has provided volunteers on a weekly basis. Since the shelter’s opening, over 900 families have passed through PFA. Children’s Aid provides comprehensive services to all Pelham Fritz residents through its Dunlevy Milbank Center across the street.
The New York Junior League (NYJL) is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism by developing the potential of women, improving communities through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The New York Junior League reaches out to women of all ages, religions and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and commitment to volunteerism. No woman is excluded from membership because of race, religion, national origin or disability.
