Children's Aid Chorus
The Children's Aid Chorus Program conducts 16 vocal ensembles. Any child age 5-18 who enjoys the challenge and fulfillment of singing with others is invited to join.
Over 350 Chorus participants practice and perform world music with artistry. Through the process, they experience personal, musical and social growth. The Chorus encourages intercultural awareness as members come from many ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Performance is an essential part of Children's Aid's elite Concert, Chamber and Senior Choruses, and young singers in these groups have performed with legendary mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne, toured the United States and Canada, and traveled as far as Puerto Rico. High praise has been received for their performances at such historic locations as Gracie Mansion, The Morgan Library and Museum and the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
Choristers have been featured on NBC's The Today Show, Good Day New York on FOX and CBS's The Early Show. Most recently, members of the Chamber Chorus appeared with John Bolton (star of "Curtains" on Broadway) at the Rainbow Room in Rockefeller Center and the Senior Chorus sang along with Patti Labelle at ADA's Step Out to Fight Diabetes Walk Concert at the South Street Seaport. The Senior Chorus also took part in a memorial concert on the steps of the New York Public Library honoring those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
The Children's Aid Chorus has sung for many dignitaries including Secretary of State Colin Powell, New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal. Choristers have collaborated with composers including Ellen Gilson Voth and Robert Cohen and are in their eighth year of an ambitious commissioning program entitled "Future Songs of the City."
Ensembles meet in various locations throughout New York City including Greenwich Village, the Upper East Side, East and Central Harlem, Washington Heights and the South Bronx.
