After School at the Rhinelander Children's Center
The Rhinelander After School Program is designed for working parents who are looking for a warm, nurturing environment and easy transition for their children from school to after school.
Our goal: To encourage and practice newly learned skills from school while giving children time to socialize, explore the arts and sciences, and to just be kids. Exhibits, performances, parties and lasting friendships help make the after school experience a memorable and happy time.
Program Schedule
After School starts the first day the New York City public schools are open and runs throughout the entire school year — a full four weeks longer than most other after school programs. Clubs run from 3:00-6:00 p.m. every day that school is open.
Registration
Registration begins January 1st for the following fall. Seats are limited and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Five-day schedule recommended for Kindergarten and 1st Graders; three to five day option thereafter. Registrations are for a full school year, 10 months only.

Program Activities
Arts & Smarts Club: 4.6-11 years old.
Students are placed into one of our "Arts and Smarts Clubs" based on their age and school grade. Each club is staffed by a head and assistant teacher who provide snacks and homework help while creating the feeling of "coming home" after school. Homework, an important component of these clubs, averages one-hour per session. Children also participate in top quality arts and enrichment activities such as pottery, studio art, theater, dance, science and computer. Two outdoor play areas provide space for those children with energy to burn.
Rhinelander Center Stage Club: 9-12 years old.
Specifically designed for older children interested in the performing arts. Includes Voice and Articulation, Dance, Choreography and Acting as well as homework time and snack. Center Stage Club runs Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 4:45-6pm. Group can expect to put on at least 3 performances during the year.
Holiday Programs
Rhinelander offers special holiday programs on public school staff development days, Election Day, half-day holidays and some school vacation breaks (typically President’s Week). Activities vary and may include trips to local parks, museums, and places of interest that make New York so exciting.
Children participating in holiday programs must be enrolled in the After School Program. There is an extra fee for this service.
After-School Music Lessons
Private music lessons with experienced and gentle instructors are available on request. We offer instruction in piano, violin and guitar.
Lessons last 30-45 minutes. Club members have first option to enroll in these sessions at an additional fee, but instructions are available to other interested parties.
Transportation
Many parents arrange after school transportation for their child to attend. We organize bus pick-up from: P.S. 158, P.S. 290, and the Lower Lab School. There is an extra fee for this service.
Enrollment
Students in the Clubs range from age 4.6 to 12 years old. Rhinelander enrolls students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin. We are dedicated to serving the diverse needs of our community and adhere to a need-blind admissions policy. Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Applications are available upon request.
