Children's Classes

Skills Classes

These game-based and workshop-oriented courses offer many avenues to express creativity and build self-esteem. Each skills course will hold a final demonstration on stage at the semester's end. Skills Classes are prerequisites for Playlabs.

Actor's Studio

This fun, physical and vocal adventure prepares actors for the Playlab experience. Learn acting basics through a blend of theater games, improvisation, and character exploration. This fun and non-threatening format helps actors learn stage direction, etiquette, memorization, warmups and more. Class culminates with an interactive improvisational, comedy and storytelling showcase demonstrating the techniques introduced throughout the semester.

Advanced Scene Study

Want to delve a bit deeper into your acting? This class will build upon your prior acting skills through exploring both classical and contemporary scenes and strengthening the ensemble through improv and movement. Class will culminate in a final showcase of all the scenes worked on during the semester. A non-threatening forum for both experienced actors and and interested beginners.

Pre- Arts: Storybook Theater

Playlabs

Students experience all the elements of play production: costumes, lighting, makeup and character development. Students are responsible for learning lines, working cooperatively with their peers and must be available for final performances the week of June 4th, 2007. Prerequisite: prior play production experience, Actor's Studio, or any character acting skills class. No prior experience necessary for Young Actor's Workshop or Pre-Teen and Teen Showcase. For questions concerning eligibility call the Artistic Director at 212-254-3074 ext. 124.

Pre-Teen Showcase

Class begins with improvisation and acting technique. Shortly after, a play will be selected by the class and instructor which is appropriate for all enrolled both in style and subject matter. Rehearsals will focus on characterization, acting technique, blocking strategies, relationship and memorization. The culminating performance will stem directly from all ensemble work and showcase student talents. A great class for those students who love the playlab experience.

Snow White

Mirror mirror on the wall, join the fairest of them all. Journey through the witch's forest to the dwarves' tiny cottage in this timeless tale filled with music, magic and fun! ADVANCED ACTORS work in an atmosphere where challenging play building skills are taught and emphasized. Ensemble acting, creative characterization and advanced playbuilding skills are emphasized. Good reading skills and previous New Acting Co. playlab/skills experience highly recommended for this advanced class.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

This classic tale by C.S. Lewis will come to life with the imagination and creativity of our INTERMEDIATE ACTORS. Working together they will learn the value of loyalty, acceptance and cooperation in this original adaptation. Creatures of Narnia unite! Recommended Prerequisite: Young Actor's Workshop or Actor's Studio.
