Announcement Regarding the Future of Rhinelander Children’s Center
Late last week, staff and parents at the Rhinelander Center learned that Children’s Aid Society has decided to sell the property at 350 East 88th Street.
Rhinelander’s toddler and other early childhood programs, preschool, after-school and summer camp programs will continue through June 2014. Our Saturday program for deaf and hard of hearing children and teens and the offices of the CAS-Carrera Pregnancy Prevention Program will be relocated to other Children’s Aid sites.
We are extremely proud of our history of quality programming at Rhinelander, the work of our excellent professional staff and the deep ties they have forged in the Yorkville community. Since the location opened as an industrial school in 1891, the center has served hundreds of children each year, and our dedicated staff has provided a truly enriching experience for children and families throughout the years.
The Children’s Aid Society made this difficult decision to better meet its mission to support underserved children in the South Bronx, Washington Heights, Harlem/East Harlem and northern Staten Island. By focusing resources in these communities, the organization can strengthen efforts to build a permanent pathway out of poverty for children and families there.
