EXCEL 8th Grade Mentoring

The EXCEL 8th Grade Mentoring Program is supplemental to the EXCEL College Preparation Program. This mentoring component provides the support and experience of a caring adult and opportunities to explore, together, life and the skills necessary to becoming a well-rounded citizen in society.

• Leadership Development through Community Service—giving back to the community through project based learning activities

Volunteer’s Role
The mentors will tutor students with their academic work, accompany them on recreational trips, and discuss life and social skills. They may have the opportunity to help students with a community service project and participate in other project-based learning experiences.

Time Commitment
This program will meet weekly on Wednesdays for two hours (6:00pm to 8:00pm) in the evening and will also have occasional Saturday group trips for mentors and mentees, in place of the scheduled weekly session.
